Your Help Needed NOW: Save Buffaloes From Cruel Fights in Assam

PETA India’s latest exposé reveals illegal buffalo fights were flagrantly organised in Assam in 2026. In December 2024, acting on petitions filed by PETA India, the Gauhati High Court upheld that buffalo and bulbul fights in Assam are in violation of the judgments of the Hon’ble Supreme Court.  PETA India’s 2026 investigations in Assam’s Morigaon and Nagaon areas revealed that buffalo fights continued —under the very nose of the authorities. During these events, terrified buffalo bulls became blood-soaked and covered with gaping open wounds. They were constantly beaten with thick sticks and pulled roughly by nose ropes to force them to fight, causing pain and injuries.

With the disturbing new evidence, PETA India has filed a petition seeking accountability and urgent action against the unlawful events that took place and immediate intervention to prevent any future events from being held. Meanwhile, the Assam Legislative Assembly has passed the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Assam Amendment) Bill, 2025, aimed at legalising the cruel buffalo fights!

This bill cannot become law without the President of India’s assent. You can help! Urge the Hon’ble President of India to withhold assent and prevent this regressive bill from allowing cruel buffalo fights.
