URGENT: Dead Calf, Bags of Bones and Animal Graveyards Found—Help Shut This Animal Hoarder Down

Dogs, cats, a calf, wildlife and other gentle beings have suffered and died on the premises of Udupi animal hoarder, Mr B. Sudhindra Aithal, at the misnamed ‘Animal Rescue Centre’ in Saligrama.

In a seventh raid supported by PETA India to ensure enforcement of multiple closure orders issued by the Saligrama Pattana Panchayat, the Animal Husbandry Department (AHD), and the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate (DC & DM)—the Saligrama Pattana Panchayat, with PETA India’s assistance found a dead calf who was hidden under a tin sheet near a pile of animal bones, bags of bones and animal graveyards strewn around the property.

During the latest raid, 17 survivors (four adult dogs, six puppies, six kittens, and one guinea pig) were pulled from filthy, overcrowded rooms emanating unbearable stench. They suffered without enough food or water, were forced to sit and lie in faeces and many had visible untreated wounds, were covered with ticks, and showed signs of contagious, deadly diseases such as canine distemper and parvovirus. One dog was found in unbearable pain and a broken backbone. Across seven raids,  more than 350 animals have been rescued from this hoarder.

Despite repeated closure orders issued by multiple authorities and the registrations of FIRs against him, Mr Aithal has continued hoard animals to satisfy his compulsion, no matter that it results in immense suffering and death and threatens public health.

We request Udipi authorities to enforce permanent closure of this animal hoarder and transfer all remaining animals to reputable sanctuaries and shelters.
